Welcome to my website!
My name is Johnny. I'm an actor, director,
teacher and writer. On my home page here I have listed four solo
shows that I can perform at your school, theater,
prison, or other venue. Contact me if you are interested.
In 2008, I directed a production of Hamlet at
Two Rivers Correctional Institution, near Umatilla, Oregon. (See below
under Hamlet.) (For more on the things I do in prison,
see www.openheartsopenminds.net.)
In early 2009, I
was
artist-in-residence at Catlin Gabel High School, in Portland. Robert
Medley, the Theater Director, and I co-directed Romeo and Juliet.
There were two performances, the evenings of March 6 and 7. In
February, I co-taught an English Literature class on
Shakespeare with Art Leo at the school. At the end of six weeks,
students performed rehearsed readings, with some memorization, of three
plays they abridged: Macbeth, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet.
NEXT

Unitarian Church of Portland, 1011 SW 12th, at 8 pm. For reservations,

I
premiered this show in June of 2005 at Brooklyn Bay, in Portland,
Oregon. I have subsequently performed it in prison, in theaters, high
schools and colleges around the Northwest. Also at the Teatro
Tanque in Guanajuato, Mexico! If you are teaching Hamlet
and would like to bring this hour-and-a-half long show to your school,
please contact me. (It's also possible for me to do an hour-long
version.) If you would like me
to bring this show to your theater, prison or other venue,
please call me at 503-347-6869 or email me at stallingsjohnny@gmail.com .
In 2008, I directed a
production of Hamlet at
Two Rivers Correctional Institution, near Umatilla, Oregon. The
six-month rehearsal period
began March 12, 2008. There were six performances. Two performances, on
October 7, 2008, were open to the general public. The inmate-actors
were given a standing ovation. It was the first time that inmates at an
Oregon prison performed a play by Shakespeare.
I will be teaching a
class called "Being Hamlet" at the First Unitarian Church of Portland
on Tuesday evenings from March 23 through April 13. I will be
performing my solo version of Hamlet
there on Shakespeare's birthday, Friday, April 23, at 8 pm. To register
for the class or make a reservation to see the play, call Katie Radditz
at 503-228-6389, ext. 17. If you have any questions, contact me.
