Welcome to my website!

My name is Johnny. I'm an actor, director, teacher and writer. On my home page here I have listed four solo shows that I can perform at your school, theater, prison, or other venue. Contact me if you are interested.

In 2008, I directed a production of  Hamlet at Two Rivers Correctional Institution, near Umatilla, Oregon. (See below under Hamlet.)  (For more on the things I do in prison, see www.openheartsopenminds.net.)

In early 2009, I was artist-in-residence at Catlin Gabel High School, in Portland. Robert Medley, the Theater Director, and I co-directed Romeo and Juliet. There were two performances, the evenings of March 6 and 7. In February, I co-taught an English Literature class on Shakespeare with Art Leo at the school. At the end of six weeks, students performed rehearsed readings, with some memorization, of three plays they abridged: MacbethHamlet and Romeo and Juliet.

In 2008, I directed a production of Hamlet at Two Rivers Correctional Institution, near Umatilla, Oregon. The six-month rehearsal period began March 12, 2008. There were six performances. Two performances, on October 7, 2008, were open to the general public. The inmate-actors were given a standing ovation. It was the first time that inmates at an Oregon prison performed a play by Shakespeare.

I will be teaching a class called "Being Hamlet" at the First Unitarian Church of Portland on Tuesday evenings from March 23 through April 13. I will be performing my solo version of Hamlet there on Shakespeare's birthday, Friday, April 23, at 8 pm. To register for the class or make a reservation to see the play, call Katie Radditz at 503-228-6389, ext. 17. If you have any questions, contact me.
